A shrnutí:

While the 6290 does not have all the features of a high end Nseries device and is not going to generate much excitement in power user circles, it does offer a lot in a small package. The 6290 offers a lot to the smartphone aficionado; it runs the latest version on the S60 software platform, has solid technical specifications and an attractive design. It does not have quite the stylish feel of other clamshells and I personally prefer the design of the Nokia N75, but the rounded pebble-style clamshell design is an old favourite for many. Thanks to its form factor, its general feel of simplicity and its mid-tier pricing (around €300 unlocked and SIM-free) the Nokia 6290 should also attract consumers who have thus far shunned high end smartphone devices as too big, too complex and too expensive.

Dnes se na netu, konkrétně na webu BengalBoye objevily první informace o připravovaném komunikátoru HTC Athena (dost možná ponese označení X7500). Má jít o komunikátor s výsuvnou QWERTY klávesnicí podobně jako je tomu u HTC TyTN.

Athena bude mít poměrně velký dotykový displej s QVGA rozlišením (240×320px). Je myslím velká škoda, že HTC nevyužilo příležitosti a nepoužilo VGA rozlišení displeje. Jinak jde o 3pásmové GSM zařízení s podporou UMTS vybavené operačním systémem Windows Mobile 5.0 PocketPC Phone Edition. Procesor má být taktován na 400 MHz, kapacita pamětí ROM je 256MB, RAM je 64MB. Konektivitu tohoto zařízení obstará Bluetooth, miniUSB 1.1 a WiFi.

Jsem hodně zvědavý na finální technickou specifikaci a rozměry tohoto zařízení. Ono se ještě může ukázat, že nejde o komunikátor, ale o UMPC .. d8-D

Na serveru C|Net News vyšel rozhovor se Stevem Ballmerem, CEO společnosti Microsoft. Řeč byla o Vistách, o životě po nich .. d8-D a v rozhovoru padla také otázka na chytré telefony a Steve se rozpovídal:

Let's say the PC market is roughly 200 million units these days, and let's say the PC market goes great guns over the next several years and grows 14 percent or 15 percent a year. Those are big numbers. You go great guns, China booms. You get maybe over 400 million in a few years. The cell phone market is already a billion units a year, and the truth of the matter is that what I'll call „smart devices,“ as a percentage, the total is rising dramatically.

When it comes to smart devices, there really aren't that many players. Basically, you have Nokia/Symbian, you've got us. Actually, I'll be so bold as to say that the two of us stand out in that area. Then you have some guys who are more niche players--Palm is more of a niche player, (Research In Motion's) BlackBerry is more of a niche player, those Linux devices from Motorola, particularly in China, (mean it) is more of a niche player.

You have some things intermediate between dumb and smart devices – kind of the J2ME-type phones – but when you talk about real smart devices, there's really two guys who I think are broad frontline players and have most of the share. It often surprises people when we tell them how much we outsell BlackBerry. BlackBerry, because they are more popular in the United States, people assume that they're quite popular. The truth of the matter is we actually outsell BlackBerry many factors to one, that's worldwide, yeah, absolutely.

Když už RIM žaluje ty Samsungy (více zde), nedalo mi to a rád bych vás upozornil na recenzi předmětu onoho sporu, a sice recenzi komunikátoru Cingular Samsung Blackjack SGH-i607, který jako operační systém používá Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone Edition.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the W950, the ergonomics were right on and the GUI was pleasant to navigate. I didn’t run into any problems with the web browser and the W950 played music as well as any other dedicated MP3 player, which raises the question, why pay $700 dollars, when I could just spend $100-$200 on a device that will do the same thing? The thought has crossed my mind, I think this device is only suitable for consumers that wish to reduce the number of devices they carry in their pocket by joining their PDA, cell phone and musical player, into one. Most high end PDA’s cost around $400-$500, so we can’t forget the value of the PDA aspect of the W950. I wasn’t too surprised by the lack of camera since this device is aimed at music lovers, besides Sony Ericsson already has a camera centric line of handsets under the brand name of Cybershot. For people that wish to utilize all 3 aspects (PDA/Phone/Music) of the W950, I think it would be a worthwhile investment, you’d be hard pressed to find another convergence device that does what the W950 is capable of.
